Sand filters operate by pumping pool water through a tank filled with sand. Water enters from the top and flows downward through the sand bed, which traps debris. The clean water then exits through the bottom and returns to your pool.

Cartridge Pool Filters

These filters work by pumping water through a housing that contains pleated filter cartridges. As the water passes through the pleats, dirt and debris are trapped. When the cartridge becomes clogged, simply remove it from the housing and rinse it clean with a garden hose.
Cartridges are easy to clean but will need replacing periodically, depending on usage and debris levels.
Diatomaceous Earth (DE) Pool Filters
For superior filtration, DE pool filters use fossilized algae to trap even the smallest particles. These filters feature grids and filter cloths coated with DE powder. As water flows through, contaminants are caught within the grid network. DE filters are highly effective, capturing particles as small as five microns—including algae and bacteria.
When the pressure rises by 7–10 lbs, it's time to backwash the filter and reapply fresh DE powder. Grids should be cleaned once per season and checked for damage such as rips or tears.
